What started as a quaint nineteenth century custom has now evolved into a world-wide phenomenon under the name of Letterboxing. Its birthplace was the Dartmoor 'Mecca' of Cranmere Pool and has since spread across the length and breadth of the moor. As an activity Letterboxing is an excellent way of getting to know Dartmoor, keeping fit, meeting new friends and best of all - it costs nothing. On the downside it can be a very addictive hobby as one chases the magical 100 letterbox visits which gets you membership of The 100 Club. This is soon followed by the first 1,000 letterbox visits and so on until the magical 10,000 figure is achieved. Today Letterboxing is monitored by both The 100 Club and The Dartmoor National Park Authority and in the course of a year its brings a lot of trade to the moorland towns and villages as well as raising money for various charities by means of the various charity letterbox walks.

Personally, I have been boxing to various degrees for over 15 years and have sited numerous letterboxes. These pages are intended as a guide to anyone interested in taking up Letterboxing and also they will provide a platform for my personal letterbox clues as they get sited. Last year this section covered a monthly Letterbox Quest which entailed solving puzzles to get to a clue for each month. Although it seemed popular at the time it is now a case of siting boxes when and where time allows.
