Dartmoor is an old an ancient land an so it should not come as a surprise that some of the old inhabitants of the moor have come back to haunt the places of their earthly lives. A few of the ghosts are kindly souls and have helped people in their time of need. However many of them still seek to cause chaos and mayhem on dark nights. Wo betide the unwary traveller who are abroad in the late hours of the night because there are unspeakable horrors lurking on the wastes and in the lanes. The spectres do not only take human form, many of them are beasts from the very depths of Hades itself. For centuries the clergymen of the moor have waged a relentless war against the undead, attempting to exorcise the evil spirits from the land of mortal man. The map below shows the 'haunts' of many of the ghouls and ghosts that frequent the lands of Dartmoor. This by no means is a complete inventory of their activities but as can be seen there are very few places that are safe from paranormal sightings - be afraid, be very afraid!
