There are many churches and chapels on Dartmoor which range from the magnificent 'Cathedral of the Moor' at Widdecombe to the small humble chapel of St. Raphael. For centuries the church has played an important part in the lives of moorfolk. At one time some of them had to walk a good few miles to attend a service or bury their dead as the numerous Church Paths will testify. Probably the most significant tract is the Lych Way, or 'Way of the Dead'. This was a path used my the dwellers of the ancient tenements in the Forest of Dartmoor to get to the church at Lydford.
